San Francisco’s North Panhandle

sometimes include this area with the Western Addition, as its convenient location nestles it right in the center of the action of District 6. A neighborhood growing with fancy restaurants and shops, it is also close to the Castro, the Haight and Hayes Valley, so there is access to plenty of action. But NOPA has evolved into a distinct neighborhood with its own vibe. The NOPA neighborhood is eclectic and diverse–culturally, ethnically and socially. Within its boundaries you can find art galleries, yoga studios, coffee shops, spas, schools, bike shops, tatoo parlors, parks, parklets, day care centers, barbershops, hair and nail salons, flower shops, music clubs, churches, farmers markets, and much more.

With the new tree plantings on the median on Divisadero, the cool restaurants, grocery stores, blocked off streets for Halloween, play groups and children’s playground, restored Victorians that survived the 1906 earthquake, the Panhandle, Golden Gate park, bike lanes, central location, great transportation options, walkability and excellent school options (including Pacific Primary preschool, SF Day School, New Traditions elementary school, Urban High school, Gateway Charter School, Creative arts charter school, and USF) there is something for everyone here!  NOPA Properties are as diverse as the neighborhood. For the great outdoors, it is a hop, skip, and a jump to Golden Gate Park, while its namesake Panhandle Park is one of the oldest in the city, having been established in 1870 by William Hammond Hall.  NOPA even has neighborhoods within neighborhoods.

For example the part of NOPA bordered by Masonic/Stanyan/Fell/Fulton is often referred to as West NOPA.
