Mount Davidson Manor is built upon one of the original “7 Hills of San Francisco” on the highest natural point in the city. Tucked between parks, this neighborhood was developed in the early 1900s but is slightly subdued compared to its District 4 neighbors. Suburban quiet with convenient amenities at hand, Mount Davidson Manor is located almost in the direct center of San Francisco. Mount Davidson’s most notable and controversial feature, aside from its height, is the 103-foot concrete cross near the hill’s crest, which was featured in 1971’s Dirty Harry, and is the site of an annual Easter sermon. The area is named after geographer and surveyor for the US Coast and Geodesic Survey, George Davidson, who surveyed the area in 1950. Mt. Davidson Manor sits atop the tallest hill in San Francisco at 938 feet.
